David Shovel - Managing Director
• David is a highly qualified and well respected Environmental Health Officer and Food Safety Consultant.
• He holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Environmental Health, and Masters in Business Administration.
• David holds unit standards qualifications in ISO 22000 MSMS Lead Auditing for RABQSA.
• David has completed the WQA & HACCP NZ training Course achieving a distinction qualification in HACCP.
• David has been a field based Environmental Health Officer both in the UK & New Zealand for over 20 yrs.
• He was a fundamental link pin in the UK model change to HACCP and has been a focal point with the NZFSA to the impending legislation changes to Food Legislation in New Zealand. He is highly respected both in the UK and NZ as an industry leader in Food Safety.
• David is also highly qualified in aspects of group training to Unit Standards levels in both Food Safety and Liquor Licensing.
Gail Shaw - Company Director & Administration Manager
• Gail was one of the original founders of Food and Health Standards New Zealand Limited and has been a director of the company for 16 years.
• Gail’s functional roles within the company are Human Resources and Finance. She is actively involved in all divisions of the company, to which she contributes her vast experience and knowledge base.
• Gail has been instrumental in the company driving and implementing food safety programmes across New Zealand.
• In addition, Gail administers and acts as District Licensing Agency for Selwyn District Council, where she is responsible for all administrative functions within the liquor licensing disciplines.
Barry Dunstan - Building Management Services Manager
• Barry’s association with Food and Health Standards reaches back to its early years. He is the manager of the Building Management Services division of the business, working with Ashlea Bichan throughout the South Island.
• His expertise and knowledge stretches over 15 years of experience, with extensive networks throughout the Building Management sector in New Zealand. He is held in very high regard amongst clients and colleagues to ensure the highest level of quality and safety.
• Whether you are a private business owner or a large property manager, Barry’s technical experience with clients such as Chubb and FoodStuffs South Island speak for his lengthy and successful career.
• Barry can ensure your building is monitored and regularly assessed in compliance with the Building Management Act 2004. He will undertake monitoring and evaluation of areas such as your building’s Warrant of Fitness; certificates for code of compliance; evacuation procedures, and building audits.
Lisa Nowlan - Manager Food Safety Division
• Lisa is a Food Scientist with over 15 years of industry experience.
• She holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Food Science and an Honours degree in Food Science, achieved with distinction.
• Her experience with a large multi-national bakery product company saw her fulfil the roles of Quality Assurance, Product Development and Innovation Management, and she held the role of Plant Manager of a food-service bakery plant in Australia, employing 40 staff, for the two years prior to moving to Christchurch.
• Relating to Food Safety, Lisa has been a plant HACCP team leader; she has completed the Royal Institute of Public Health certificate in Advanced HACCP (with merit); she has been responsible for developing, implementing and managing food quality & safety systems in plant bakeries; in preparing them for various regulatory and customer audits; and for food safety, hygiene and quality training programmes.
• In her product development and innovation management roles, Lisa has been responsible for designing in safety, and she prides herself in her ability to integrate innovation, food safety and quality into an operational environment.
• Lisa has two years of consulting experience to the food industry in New Zealand, and prior to joining Food & Health Standards (2006) Ltd. earlier this year, was part of the BIANZ Buying Group as an independent supplier of Food Technology Consulting Services.
Julaine Daly - Environmental Health & Food Safety Consultant
• Julaine is responsible for food and hygiene inspections, liquor and premise licenses, infectious disease control, and program her in to your speed dial for health, noise and animal complaints.
• Her friendly nature and top-quality level of knowledge means she can assist you with all your public health and council requirements. Don’t hesitate to contact her if you need to discuss a health query in greater detail or if you are on a private drinking water supply looking for sampling or advice about control and treatment.
• Julaine keeps her finger on the pulse of the food safety and environmental health sector in New Zealand. She is currently undertaking extramural study in a Bachelor of Health Science with a major in Human Health and the Environment.
Ashlea Bichan - Building Compliance Technical Officer
• Ashlea works along side Barry Dunstan giving buildings up and down the South Island the health and safety once over. Responsible for undertaking monthly site inspections for Building Warrants of Fitness in accordance with the Building Act 2004, she will ensure your building has adequate signage, means of escape, fire doors, safety doors and final doors for exit.
• She is a wizz with reports and prepares accurate documentation annually for local councils and building owners. Ashlea hails from the mighty Deep South and credits being the youngest person in New Zealand studying to be an Independent Qualified Person; responsible for site inspections and audits, to her name.
• You’ll find Ashlea working hard in the office, visiting building sites sporting a hard-hat and high vis, or keeping Barry out of mischief.
